So, we've got two options. Option A: the Chamber is native to Westeros, or Option B: the Targaryens brought something with them from Old Valyria that would become the Chamber.

Option A: The Chamber is native to Westeros. It's been there for as long as anyone can remember. Located near where King's Landing would one day be, the kingdoms used it to test their princes and kings, a tradition probably enforced by the smallfolk who found their lot in life better under kings (and knights) tested by the Chamber. I will arbitrarily say, in this headcanon/what-if scenario, that by the time of the Targaryen Conquest, all the Kingdoms of Westeros use the Chamber except probably the Iron Islands, and even then, maybe occasionally, someone will come and ask to use it . Depends on what the Drowned God's deal is, but that's not the point here.

Now, how we get the Targaryens to trust and use the Chamber is a question I haven't answered yet. Maybe the Chamber gets forgotten/abandoned until the first or second succession crisis, and someone on the Small Council suggests it for choosing the next king, and after that it gets put back into somewhat infrequent use for choosing kings, and more frequently for testing knights. The Chamber continues to fall in and out of use both for kings and knights, some mad Targaryen is sure to try and destroy it and promptly get SmoteTM for the attempt.

When Robert's Rebellion succeeds, Robert chooses to undergo the test of the Chamber the night before his coronation, and after, makes all Kingsguard undergo the test as well, in addition to restoring the tradition of testing knights-to-be in the Chamber, which was probably a secondary goal of the Rebellion, since the Chamber had long been out of use by the time of Aerys the Mad King.

Option B: the Chamber or something that would become the Chamber came with the Targaryens from Old Valyria. An old, old tradition of Valyria that fell out of and into favor due to the death count, Aegon the Conqueror brings it with him, more out of respect of the past and wishing to save as much of Valyrian culture and tradition more than anything. During the early years of his reign, he eventually enters the Chamber for advice on how to rule and lead his reluctant subjects.

I don't quite know what he sees or how he reacts to it. At the very least, I think he learns he can't maintain the Old Valyrian tradition of siblings marrying because the magic to keep out insanity will fail.

Actually, Aegon, Visenya, and Rhaenys all enter the Chamber shortly after the Conquest, though the women may only enter after Aegon does. Aegon annulls his marriages to his sisters and carefully chooses spouses for them, and himself, made easier by the current lack of issue. The two cadet houses carefully maintain genealogical records and marry back into the main branch every so often.

Some Targaryen along the way is still probably going to marry someone they shouldn't, nothing stays perfect forever, but the wheel turns on; good kings and bad kings come and go, the Chamber falls into and out of use, both for kings and knights. I don't want to copy-paste from Option A, so maybe the Chamber's magic fades, since it comes from Old Valyria this time, and thus, while it may be traditional for kings and knights to hold vigil outside the Chamber before becoming kings and knights, it's now a mere formality rather than an actual test.

This means that when the Chamber's magic does return, no one notices, at least, not immediately. Someone eventually will feel drawn to the Chamber and either get a vision via touching the door or will straight up be able to enter the Chamber once more. Thus, when Robert wins his Rebellion, he declares he will attempt the Test of the Chamber.

What happens after that, in both timelines, I leave to others who have either read the books or watched the show.

I’m not going anywhere with this but it’s a thought I had.

vel clearly being anxious and waiting and needing cinta to be the first one to make the move -> very much to me would be a mirror of the first time they did this, in accordance with faye's answer to that one question of who'd admit their feelings first (i could make a whole other post about this aspect of it. it may or may not be already written?)

cinta maybe still worried and taking it slow but vel leaning in to give permission even though she's not going to go first

cinta finally going for it and vel's hand immediately going to her face as well

a kiss! a brief break away. another kiss! all soft and careful and devastating to me personally. like how are they able to fit this much yearning into an actual kiss

after another tiny break they're all in on the third one. vel opens her eyes for the tiniest peek to check and then fully pulls cinta in closer to her like she's been starving for years. oh wait, she has!

cinta finally pulling back again but the forehead connection remains and the hand stays on vel's face, she is not letting her get away!!! and vel is still hungry lol but cinta.....cinta smiles through all the heavy feelings and just rubs her thumb along vel's cheek and for one absolutely perfect moment in time, everything is exactly how it should be

and nothing bad happened to them ever again yaaaayyyy!!!!

I made another Mairon redesign!

Ta-da! Ik I made one a few months ago but galaxy brained and I like this one a lot better tbh.

Notes on the design:

- one of the main things I considered with this was making Mairon not embody his own values and standards.

- the hair was part of this. I wanted to give him voluminous, hard-to-control hair to show that, try as he might, he can’t control anything fully. He can’t decide what emotions he feels, and he is often driven by emotion more than he wants. (Also bc that hair texture is a. gorgeous and b. super fun to draw)

- i tried to give him a softish look, as well, to subvert expectations and also bc that sharp appearance = danger thing is a lil overused. I also want to create some contrast between his original Mairon form and the forms he’ll take as Sauron, to illustrate that he’s a dynamic character, too. I want Mairon specifically to have less villain vibes and more… idk, main love interest vibes, since those two are about as far away as you can get. (In the kind of story I’m talking about, anyway)

- Also, I gave him a cleft lip & palate bc I hc that more “traditional” (aka conservative) elves view things like body differences as curses, or signs that Illuvatar dislikes you. This isn’t true, but that’s how they percieve it. Opinions like this were unfortunately very very common in Valinor early on, so Mairon has that heavily internalized. Dealing with this stigma gave him a lot of that perfectionism, and it also served to keep him from having any sort of support network, making it much easier for Melkor to turn him to his side. (Also bc I wanted to try drawing it and idk it just fits)

- (also most elves are better with that by the 3rd age)

- (if this is offensive pls tell me! I don’t have a cleft/facial difference myself, so I’m not an expert on the situation. I tried to emphasize that the thing that messed him up was society’s negative reaction to it, but if I offended anyone pls don’t hesitate to tell me!)

- I also tried to really emphasize the forge spirit side of things- I just think that’s really cool ^^

- I did that with the eyes (also Eye of Sauron related ofc) and the hair

- The makeup serves 2 purposes: To show how Mairon puts up a front most of the time, and bc it looks cool and I like drawing makeup

- Final note: this was meant to be a reference for me but I got distracted, so there are no clothes/piercings/accessories involved. Mairon would wear so much jewelry but more on that later hopefully

Inspired to draw that scene from Team StarKid's Cinderella's Castle. (+a surprise Sir Hop-A-Lot and Crumb under the cut.)

The lighting on that set then (bright green with deep blue on the side) was so good that I had a strong impulse to just try and capture how I was envisioning the scene playing out in an illustrated fairytale-esque forest-scape-y thingy.

I really want to draw a Cinderella moment next - so hard to pick a specific scene!! I'll be thinking about it as I catch up on work rn. Hopefully I can get to it some time tonight. I did do a quick sketch of Rancilda that I'll post soon though!

Primal Fears AU content but don’t worry it’s still sonadow

That last one is a repost from last year so if you saw the silly drawings but then read the thing in the bottom left corner and went “wait what the fuck”

It’s because it was an AU thing but I literally only had that drawn out and now you get some context at least:

In this universe Sonic is an assassin/bounty hunter/whatever you wanna call a guy that is hired to specifically to kill other Entities. He meets Shadow when they run into each other because they’re both following the same Avatar. Then they do the normal canon sonadow thing where the first interaction they have always ends with them fighting and beating the shit out of each other. And then they kinda calm down but then Shadow has a similar moment from the beginning of the IDW Sonic comics where he gets absolutely pissed that Sonic managed to distract him from catching the bad guy and zooms away before the two have another chance to speak again.

Here Shadow is a GUN field agent except in this universe GUN isn’t really military and it’s more focused on not only investigating (like the Magnus Institute) but also actively dealing with the Entities. Which sounds great except remember how I said they aren’t military well actually they kinda are because “dealing” with Entities and Avatars just means: throw it in the high-security prison that is guarded by other various Avarars that all work for GUN because it means they don’t have to get thrown in prison. So GUN is kinda like The Magnus Institute + Section 31 working together. So actually I guess it’s like the SCP Foundation.

One day Shadow goes into work and Sonic and there and I’m not really sure on what I’m gonna do in the plot to make him end up there (like maybe he’s undercover and just using GUN to get to his next target or maybe GUN does the “hey we’re gonna throw you in jail if you don’t agree to work for us” idk again not sure yet) but now he’s working with Shadow because they still need to catch that Avatar.

So now we’re sorta caught up, they’re at Club Rouge (and I realized I didn’t specify which Entity she serves in my drawing of her but people who guessed the Stranger ding ding ding here have some sonadow) because Sonic and Shadow need to kinda interrogate Surge and Amy, who are associated with the Slaughter. They have a band called Poison Rose and it’s basically just Grifter’s Bone but they perform rock music instead. And are also probably dating.

Anyway the Big Case™️ Sonic and Shadow are working on is investigating a bunch of spooky murders and they’re pretty sure whoever’s behind them is a Slaughter avatar. But not specifically Amy and Surge☝️ They’re kinda “allowed” to perform the Music That Makes You Die because GUN also has like an “informant” group of avatars they can rely on. These avatars don’t work for GUN, but they agree to chill out on the spooky stuff if it means they don’t get arrested for spooky crimes. So for Poison Rose, “chilling out” on the spooky stuff means that they have to force people to wear earplugs while they perform, which wasn’t specifically stated in MAG 42 if that works or not, not really sure of the magic rules of the Music That Makes You Die phenomena but yeah they gotta do that and probably some other stuff so GUN doesn’t arrest them. Like maybe no swearing or something lol.

Okay gonna stop there before this gets even longer explaining my AU because this was supposed to be just a normal sketch post but whoops.

Oh also I made a playlist for the kind of music Poison Rose performs but it was made private because I didn’t want anyone to stumble across it and be like “pshhhh this dumb person who makes public playlists of their AU that no one knows about what a loser” (me when I make up completely unrealistic scenarios in my head) but now here’s a post explaining that part of my AU so that person can’t make fun of me anymore

Sorry, I always leave all my ramblings in the tags LMAO I don’t think it’s really about "canonizing" a sapphic relationship so much as it is handling one, and yeah yeah like I can totally get why they might not feel confident portraying that kind of complex and messy dynamic fully and respectfully.

Ah, honestly? I don’t think it would be that weird between the guys, hypothetically speaking. They’re pros, they know they’re playing characters, and they’ve handled serious and emotional stuff before. I trust them to act the hell out of whatever direction they go in tho. That said, I do like where canon pistolwhip is right now, like this awkward, sooo sooo emotionally charged “friends but maybe?” situationship... I wouldn’t want to force canon on it either.

Unfortunately pistolwhip is never gonna be canon because people are scared of messy relationships. (Jrwi riptide spoilers under cut)

“She dated her sister though!!” Ava also betrayed Lizzie? And killed her father figure? That’s also messy?? But it’s tragic and romantic. Pistolwhip is tragic and romantic! Lizzie learning to live with herself and learning that she has worth, she is worthy, learning that she’s allowed to be hurt by Ava, instead of believing that it was completely her fault (cuz she can’t get mad at Ava, Ava was perfect). Jay learning to fight for what she cares about, to stand up for herself, that she doesn’t have to be Ava. Like. Their healing processes are so intertwined because they need to learn from each other. Also Jay’s a completely different person than Ava (though she’d rather not be, that’s what makes it so fucking interesting like at the start of their arcs Lizzie tries not to see her as Ava, but Jay wants nothing more than to be Ava, and Lizzie is like « no??? You’re your own person separate from her??? ») like Lizzie doesn’t like her cuz she’s a stand in for Ava, at the start she likes her in part because she’s so different from Ava.

Anyways point is people want messy lesbians until it’s actually (not even that) messy.
